Getting Started

New to Handover? Start here.

Handover is an AI-powered assistant built exclusively for Marine Engineers. It provides instant troubleshooting guidance, precise technical insights, and AI-driven expertise for ship machinery and systems — powered by thousands of open-source maritime documents.

Download the Handover app from the App Store and sign in with your Apple ID. Your account is created automatically — no separate registration required.

Handover is available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. All platforms sync seamlessly through your Apple ID, so your conversations and preferences are available everywhere.

After signing in, tap the "New Chat" button. Type your question or describe the technical issue you need help with, and Handover will provide detailed, context-aware guidance.

Chat & Features

Get the most out of conversations.

Handover uses advanced large language models combined with a curated maritime knowledge base. Responses are generated in real-time, streamed to your device for a fast, interactive experience.

Web Search allows Handover to look up current information from the internet while answering your questions. This is useful for finding the latest regulations, bulletins, or technical updates that may not be in the built-in knowledge base.

Yes. You can upload technical documents, manuals, and reference materials to your conversations. Handover will read and reference them when generating responses, giving you answers grounded in your specific documentation.

Memory allows Handover to remember important context about you — such as your vessel type, rank, or preferred topics. This helps provide more personalized and relevant responses across all your conversations.

Yes. Go to Settings → Personalization to adjust the response tone, length, and add custom instructions. These preferences apply to all your future conversations.

Subscription & Billing

Plans, payments, and upgrades.

Handover offers a Free plan with basic access, and paid tiers — Essential, Plus, and Max — with increasing message limits, priority responses, and advanced features. View all plans in Settings → Subscription.

Open the app and go to Settings → Subscription → Upgrade. Choose your preferred plan and complete the purchase through the App Store. Your new features activate immediately.

Subscriptions are managed through the App Store. Go to your iPhone/iPad Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → Handover, then tap "Cancel Subscription". You'll retain access until the end of your current billing period.

Yes. Sign in with the same Apple ID and go to Settings → Restore Purchases. Your subscription and all associated features will be restored automatically.

Privacy & Security

How we protect your data.

Yes. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest. We use secure authentication, regular security audits, and access controls to protect your information.

Yes. You can delete individual conversations by swiping left on a thread, or delete all data from Settings → Data Controls. Deleted data is permanently removed from our servers.

Yes. Go to Settings → Data Controls → Export Data to download a copy of all your conversations and account information.

Conversations may be used to improve our AI models, but all data is anonymized beforehand. Enterprise users can opt out entirely. Read our full Privacy Policy for details.

Troubleshooting

Fix common issues.

Check your internet connection first. If connected, try closing and reopening the app. If the issue persists, the service may be experiencing temporary high load — wait a few minutes and try again.

Make sure you are running the latest version of Handover from the App Store. Restarting the app or your device can also help. If slowness continues, contact support.

Ensure your Apple ID is set up correctly on your device. Try signing out and back in from your device's Apple ID settings. If the problem continues, reach out to [email protected].

Go to Settings → Restore Purchases. This syncs your subscription status with the App Store. If it still doesn't appear, verify the purchase in your Apple ID → Subscriptions settings.
